Subject Priority - Which Subject should I start first ?

So, while starting the preparation , the first question that comes into mind is which subject to start first ? On one side It feels appealing to start the subject which has highest weight-age but if that subject is your weak point , then it is going to demotivate you.First of all  you should know the weightage of subject according to me

According to Average Marks Distribution:

MATHEMATICS=APTITUDE+ENGLISH  > SOM  >THERMODYNAMICS >FM >  PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY > HT >TOM > MECHANICS >INDUSTRIAL* > MACHINE DESIGN

*Varies annually

So, How should you start ?

• Out of SOM,TD,FM,PT select the subject that you are most confident with.In my case I was most comfortable with  SOM .Make this subject your strong point and keep in mind during interview time , mention this subject as your favourite one.
• Study from books/notes , It hardly matters as long as you know the basics thoroughly.
• Do questions of this subject of at least 5 previous year papers.
• Do It thoroughly, and Analyse it ! This is going to be the foundation of your entire GATE preparation. analyse how questions are asked in GATE, how much repetition is there, how questions are manipulated.
• After doing this ,you will have the basic idea about questions asked in GATE, Since it is an Graduation Aptitude Test, questions asked are easy and one is able to answer them if they have a clear basic knowledge and formulas are revised properly.
• The only thing that will differentiate a WINNER and LOSER is REVISION

Remember : If you want success in GATE Exam , Cover the entire syllabus atleast thrice and written revision of formulas must be done atleast 10 times otherwise it would be a futile effort. Every rank above 500 is considered in this category with a few exceptions.
